The Willson family had been selling their grapes to the nation's most conspicuous brands, before they took the plunge to retain the best of harvest for their own label. Graciano is oft blended with suave and stylish Tempranillo, to fashion the most engaging and topical wines in Rioja.

The Willsons have been grapegrowers in Langhorne Creek for some considerable time but it wasn't until young Rebecca grabbed the reins to process and label her own fruit that the family name became synonymous with superlative Langhorne Creek wines. Following vinification in small batch open top fermenters and a judicious maturation in a selection of the finest oak barriques, components are assembled to define the brave synergy between Graciano and Tempranillo, without masking the distinctive character of Langhorne Creek.

The very limited release Walter Reserve is a wine of stature and opulence, an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon grown to the rich, predisposed soils of Langhorne Creek. Assembled from a fastidious selection of the best barrels Cabernet, all originating from the estate's superlative vineyards, nourished by the flooding of Bremer River. Bremerton are in a unique position to keep all the individual parcels of Cabernet separate until completion, for the purpose of isolating the most exceptional lots, from the time of picking through to vinification and maturation.

Willson crafts traditional, full bodied, full flavoured, mouth filling Langhorne Creek wines that show a consistency of style, whilst encouraging the true varietal Cabernet characteristics to be expressed. Cabernet Sauvignon is fermented in open vats before being matured two years in completely new French oak. Following some barrel age, each parcel is assessed, the most outstanding parcels are treated to a further term of age before being assembled into the final wine. A term of bottle maturation, up to two years before release totally integrates the tannins, achieving remarkable flavour development.

Deep crimson colour. A powerful yet elegant wine, bouquet of blackberry, bramble and earthy notes. Following a visit to France where he studied the ancient pastoral practices of breeding the world's best chickens, Adam Marks gained the inspiration to create great Australian wines in the very same manner, adopting an artisanal approach to production, employing traditional, age old methods. Coq Noir is the flagship Shiraz by one of Victoria's most adroit, small batch producers. An opulent effort vinified from parcels of the most intense fruit, bottled without fining or filtration, which may deposit a harmless sediment, decanting is a must.

Gently crushed fruit and a parcel of whole bunches are treated to a wild, indigenous yeast vinification in traditional open fermenters. A course of hand plunges and pumpovers extract deep colour and optimal tannins, followed by transfer to a luxuriously high proportion of new Francois Freres French oak hogsheads. Upon completion of malolactic, the wine is gravity fed to barrel for a year's maturation and minimal filtration.

Intense, vibrant inky crimson. A complex array of black fruit aromas, spices and cloves, plums, oak and char vanillan spice. The palate is tightly packed full of black fruit, oak is beautifully integrated, providing structure and adding power, balance and savoury richness. The best of Bendigo should always be decanted and served alongside the freshest, local farm ingredients.

The cult and abstruse Cabernet Franc finds a new home away from home, among the verdant orchards of Yarra Valley. Completely destemmed grapes are treated to a long, slow indigenous yeasts ferment. $3399each $407DOZEN EACH DOZEN A tale of two winegrowing regions, fruit is harvested from choice vineyards in McLaren Vale, crushed and chilled to tanker, transferred to the Pokolbin wineworks in Hunter Valley. Parcels are treated to a vinomatic fermentation, without any excessive plunges or movement of juices, to extract only the finest supple tannins. Upon completion, components are filled to a selection of seasoned and new, French and American oak barriques for term of maturation.

Dense red, youthful purple hues. Red fruit bouquets, bramble and cassis, varietal Merlot plummy notes and Cabernet leaf over hints of cedar. A well rounded, stylish palate of ripe, dusty fruit flavours, plummyness, red cherries and game over a length of yielding tannins and background carob oak. A joy alongside lamb roast, pure delight with olive baguette and firm tangy cheese.

The first block of Brokenwood vines ever planted were on a cricket pitch. Acquisition of this ten acre property along McDonalds Rd in October of 1970 almost fell into competitor's hands during a bidding war against Hungerford Hill. By the time the site became productive in 1973, Brokenwood had established themselves at the apex of a resurgence in Hunter Valley viticulture. Cricket Pitch is a varietally rich mix of Cabernet and Shiraz, Merlot and Petit Verdot, from vineyards in the central ranges of New South Wales, Beechworth and McLaren Vale.

A precious block separating Cricket Pitch and the eminent Graveyard Vineyard has remained elusive to Brokenwood, who were taunted for many years with outrageous invoices sent to them by neighbouring Hungerford Hill over the collection of firewood. The warring estates have now called a truce in the interest of fine wine. Cabernet and Shiraz, Merlot and Petit Verdot are crushed into vinomatic fermenters and treated to a three day cold soak prior to vinification. Upon completion, Cricket Pitch is matured eighteen months in a selection of seasoned American and French oak barriques.

Medium to dark garnet. Aromas of red cherry and milled spice, vanillin and earth notes. Mid weight palate with some Cabernet cedar up front that leads to soft Shiraz richness. The oak regime is mainly older American and French so limited impact although some vanillin on both nose and palate with a long sweet finish. A drink now style that will continue to soften, excellent fruit flavours and balance being the features.

Exceptional Langtons Classification. Graveyard is the jewel of the Brokenwood crown, it endures as one of the nation's great first growths. A word to the squeamish, the property may have been zoned as Pokolbin cemetery in 1882 but was never populated. Established to descendants of colonial rootstock in 1968, the vines at Graveyard struggle to yield meagre harvests of the most intense berries. A Shiraz of outstanding line, as Len Evans coined the phrase, to convey fine structure, exquisite balance and generous palate length.

$29999each $3599DOZEN EACH DOZEN A terroir of extremely heavy clays over loam subsoils, pockets of ironstone here and there, topsoils are very mean and shallow. Yields from the Graveyard Vineyard are low, but fruit flavour is intense through the fastidious employment of meticulous viticultural techniques. Grapes are all hand picked and treated to an extended cold soak, followed by several days of vinification in a collection of three tonnes, open top fermenters at 26C to 28C, hand plunged twice daily. Upon completion to dry, batches are pressed off skins and filled to a high proportion of new French oak barrels and larger format 500 Litres puncheons, for a course of malolactic and term of maturation.

Bright red colour, youthful hues. A nose in the savoury red spectrum, almost cherry compote, bran meal and vanillan oak with sufficient fruit to balance. These follow on to the medium bodied palate with plenty of sweet flavours up front, initially soft to mid weight tannins, followed by red berry and spice flavours. Fine grape and oak tannins begin to grip on the excellent, lasting finish.
