Tolpuddle Coal Valley Pinot Noir
Coal River
The Tolpuddle Martyrs were English farmhands whose only crime was to establish a workers union in the world's newest nation, perfect stock with strong backs to labour as penal colonists, they served out their sentence on the site of Tolpuddle Vineyard. The property is now planted to blocks of fully mature vines, they face northeast and slope gently up from Back Tea Tree Road. Soils are light silica over sandstone, only moderate in vigor, the ideal terroir for minimalist yields of the most remarkably balanced and wonderfully intense Pinot Noir.

Bright beetroot hues. Black cherries, perfumed fruits, stalkiness, sour cherry and notes of smokey grilled nuts. Velvet smooth palate, strawberry and black cherry spice, sasafras and the astringency of smoked twiggy tannins, its flowing robes of juicy purple fruit flavours and crisp apple juicyness resolve on a lengthy coffee finish of sen-sen, cola and mastic.

Torbreck Cuvee Juveniles GSM
Barossa
Available by the dozen
Torbreck founder David Powell is a frequenter of fashionable wine bar Les Juveniles whenever he's in Paris. Conversely, the proprietor of Les Juveniles spends time with Powell whenever he's wine trekking around the Barossa. A delightfully fruit forward accord of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourverdre, crafted from fruit grown to old and very old Barossa vineyards, judiciously fashioned to an early drinking Rhône Valley styling, principally for the enjoyment of bohemians and artistes, épicuriens et bon vivants.

Designed for the fashionistas who attend Juveniles, enthusiasts who really know their Rhône Valley wines. Two thirds Grenache with the balance of Shiraz and Mourverdre, assembled from a collation of harvests, off vineyards between forty and a hundred fifty years of age, grown to the premiere Barossa districts of Seppeltsfield and Gomersal, Moppa and Marananga, Ebeneezer and Koonunga Hill. Fruit is all hand picked, passed over the sorting table and treated to a term of cold soak. Parcels are separately vinified in traditional fermenters and assembled into a single wine for completion of ferments and natural malolactic. The finished cuvée is bottled without fining or filtration in November.

Bright red hues. Perfumes of strawberry and spiced black plums, the energy and intensity of freshly fermenting must. Ripe juicy flavours of blackberry, spiced cherries, minerals and Asian spices wrapped around a skeleton of fresh acidity and fine mineral laden tannins. Soft and sensuous, ready to enjoy immediately on release, ideally alongside crusts and fresh baked goods, cured hams and cold roast duck.
Torbreck Descendant Shiraz Viognier
Barossa
Available in cases of 6
Excellent Langtons Classification. A single vineyard wine, the Barossa Valley's first ever co fermented Shiraz Viognier, from fruit grown next to the winery block on Roennfeldt Road, planted to cuttings off old RunRig vineyards, some of the oldest genetic material in Australia. Built to last and evolve for many years as time unlocks layers of cryptic complexity within, the Descendant's immediate charm can be enjoyed immediately upon release, after a few hours of essential breathing. A wine of remarkable concentration, supported by silky tannins, suave sophistication and impeccable balance.

The Torbreck endeavour is based around precious Barossa vineyards and a love for the classics of Rhone Valley. In 1995 Dave Powell crushed three tonnes of grapes and fermented wine in a shed on his Marananga property. He named his wine Torbreck after a forest in Scotland where he worked as a lumberjack. The deep red clay soils at Marananga produce fruit which is savoury and rich, a satin texture and glorious perfume. Shiraz is crushed straight on top of Viognier grapes which have been lightly pressed for RunRig. The mixture is co fermented and treated to twenty two months maturation in seasoned French oak barrels which have previously been used for the ageing of RunRig.

Completely black/ purple with healthy, vibrant magenta hues. A pure, wild, powerful nose of blackberry and tar is complimented by a gentle floral lift of lavender and violets. Full bodied with great concentration, lavish layers of dense blueberry fruit are perfectly interwoven with nuances of cinnamon, tar, exotic spice, pepper and dark cherry. Silky tannins and perfectly judged extract, a vigorous, lengthy finish.
