Jaboulet Parallele 45 Rouge
Cotes du Rhone
Available in cartons of six
Six parts Grenache and four of Syrah, for over half a century, Parrallele 45 has been assembled from a coterie of Paul Jaboulet vineyards across the greater Cotes du Rhone. Named after the latitude which is closest to the cellars of Maison Paul Jaboulet Aine, Parrallele 45 is a wine of exceptional freshness, aromatic richness and fleshiness of palate. An articulation of the salubrious aspects, vigorous climes and remarkable soils, which combine to form one of the old world's most ancient winegrowing regions.

Paul Jaboulet's Cotes du Rhone vineyards are holistically managed to a timeless viticulture, artificial pesticides and fertilizers are strictly avoided. Careful work is carried out to ventilate the grapes by thinning out bunches and leaves, for optimal exposure to the sun and to ensure that vines remain in perfect health. Each block of vine is selectively picked according to a timetable dictated by complete ripeness. Harvests of Grenache and Syrah are sourced off mature vines averaging twenty five years of age, planted to a mixture of shingle clay, stony argillaceous and limestone pebble soil. Fruit is treated to a traditional vinification and course of extended macerations in temperature controlled fermenters.

Deep colour, dark purple red hue. Elegant and aromatic nose, savoury red and black fruit fragrances seasoned by spice. A well structured palate supported by well rounded tannins, lovely grainy fruit flavours and mineral textures, bramble berries and currant, fragrant with piquant spice. A wine of generosity and finesse to share with friends and match alongside flavoursome, rustic faire.

Grapes are de-stemmed and crushed to small static fermenters, inoculated with neutral yeast and vinified for a fortnight. The sensory characteristics are checked twice daily, pumpover regimes are attenuated to maximise the extraction of flavour, colour and tannin. Ferments are pressed off skins and free run, followed by a return to add palate weight and structure. Malolactic is carried out in new and prior use French and American oak hogsheads, followed by an extended maturation. The barrels are sampled and trialled, ensuring that only those parcels displaying intensity of fruit, balanced tannins and soft oak, are worthy of being included into the finished Jacobs Creek Reserve.

Deep crimson red. Concentrated, lifted cassis and black fruits of the forest nose, subtle notes of mint, chocolate and attractive toasted oak. This vigorously fruit driven and powerfully structured wine is filled with vibrant, varietal black currant flavours, mint and cassis, dried herb and capsicum over tight tannins, framed by smoothly integrated oak, well balanced before a long persistent finish.

Jacobs Creek Reserve Shiraz

When Johann Gramp planted his vines along the banks of Jacob's Creek in 1847, he was less preoccupied with the making of history but more concerned with the selection of rootstock and fruit, his choice was Shiraz. Jacobs Creek still retain access to some of the oldest vines in Australia and can call on harvests of the finest Barossa Shiraz every year. Previous vintages have claimed conspicuous international awards, including gold Concours Mondiale de Bruxelles and Selections Mondiales de Vins Canada, gold Tasters Guild & International Wine USA.

Vineyards are monitored throughout the growing season so that winemakers can select parcels of fruit with concentrated varietal flavours and fine tannin structure. Following the harvest, bunches are gently crushed and destemmed into a range of static fermenters for inoculation with a chosen strain of neutral yeast. During a fortnight's vinification on skins, temperatures are maintained between 18C and 28C to ensure adequate colour, tannin and flavour extraction. Key components are drained and pressed into a range of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels for the completion of ferments and maturation.

Deep red with bright crimson hue. Richly perfumed and aromatic with intense dark berry fruit scents, hints of black pepper spice and sweet vanillin oak. A rich core of ripe black fruit flavours, layered subtly with black pepper and restrained, stylish oak, supported by softly textured fruit tannins and finishing on a long, savoury finish. Excellent drinking now and will continue to improve, an ideal accompaniment to braised lamb shanks, eye fillet and hard cheeses.
